Sugar Cookie Recipe
Okay, folks – this month’s recipe is a “knock your socks off” sugar cookie recipe! I received this recipe as part of a holiday cookie exchange years ago, and am so glad I did. The cookies are delicious, and are very addictive! I challenge you to try and eat just one of these cookies. I don’t think you’ll be able to – and don’t think you’ll want to!
I often make these at the holidays, sometimes with red and/or green sugar crystals sprinkled on top, but this recipe is definitely “all-occasion” and I make them year-round. If you bake these cookies and take them to a potluck, an office party, or another gathering you’ll get rave reviews – I promise!
Sugar Cookie Recipe
Ingredients:
1 cup softened butter
2 cups granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 cup oil
pinch of salt
1 tsp. Vanilla extract
5 cups flour
2 tsp. Baking Soda
2 tsp. Cream of Tartar
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar together using an electric mixer. Add eggs, oil, salt, and Vanilla extract. Sift dry ingredients together in a separate bowl, and combine with wet mixture. When well mixed, drop by spoonfuls onto baking sheets – or roll into smallish balls and press somewhat flat for more uniform-looking cookies. Sprinkle tops with sugar, if desired. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes, until golden at edges.
Yield: Makes 5 – 6 dozen cookies
I roll my cookies into balls, flatten them a bit, and – with the cookie sticking to the palm of my hand – press the cookie tops into a shallow bowl of sugar before placing them on the cookie sheets. This results in cookies with a uniform size, shape, and even sugar coverage.
I hope you give this recipe a try, and I hope you enjoy these yummy cookies. Happy baking!
Warm regards,
Melody
