Survivor: Nicaragua – Let the Games Begin!

I don’t watch very much television, but I do have a few shows I watch faithfully when they’re on.  One of these shows is Dexter, which is on Showtime. How can something so dark and twisted be so good?  I have to confess though: my number one guilty pleasure where TV is concerned is Survivor.  How do I love thee, Survivor?  Let me count a few of the ways.

1. I love your exotic locations.  Any peek into another country and/or culture is a joy for me.  The scenery is always a sight to see!

2. I love the personalities of the cast members, and how they sometimes mix to create a volcanic eruption.  There have been some interesting characters on the show over the years, and I’m not even talking about the highly (self) esteemed and controversial Russell Hantz.

3. I love the unpredictable element of chance that sometimes throws the player’s best-laid plans out the window.  A new twist in the game, a merge, tribal immunity, a hidden immunity idol – all these things can take what seems like a done deal and laugh in its face.

4. I love the production value of this show.  From the cinematography to the sets, everything is incredibly well done.  Kudos to the production staff and editors!

5. I love the host, Jeff Probst.  This is just a figure of speech, of course.  I’m a happily married woman!  Seriously though, Mr. Probst does a great job of hosting, and does an especially great job of stirring the pot at tribal council.  Keep up the great work, Jeff, and please don’t ever leave the show (while it’s still on air).  Survivor wouldn’t be the same without you!

Survivor: Nicaragua starts tomorrow night, and I’ll be glued to my television set. I know the premier will be great, but can’t imagine an opening sequence better than last season – Heroes vs.Villains.  I think my heart rate actually increased watching the military helicopters fly the cast in over the water before depositing them on the on the Samoan beach.  What a sight!  I guess that’s proof that I’m a Survivor junkie.  Oh well, it’s healthier than being addicted to heroin, right?!

This tribe of one has spoken.  Will you be watching?

Warm regards,
Melody

p.s. To any Survivor haters: I know the show is completely contrived, and that the title of the show is a misnomer.  It’s not a real survival situation at all, and I don’t really care.  Just think of it as the players trying to survive a unique combination of weight loss summer camp, 24-7 voyeurism, and a popularity contest all rolled into one!

My favorite season was always Australia, season two. I haven’t seen the show in years, but agree with all your assessments about its merit. A guilty pleasure, for sure.

I’ve never seen Survivor, and I remember you telling me it was good. But I plan on watching it this season, especially since its in Nicaragua. I think my parents are going to see it too. 🙂
